Half-day afternoon tour covering the spectacular Topkapi Palace where Sultans once ruled the greatest Ottoman Empire; and the Rustem Pasa Mosque, famous for its large quantities of exquisite Iznik tiles set in a very wide variety of beautiful floral and geometric designs.
- Duration: 4 hour(s)
- Location: Istanbul
The tour begins with a visit to the Imperial Palace of Topkapi, where the Ottoman Sultans ruled their grand empire for over 400 years. This is followed by a visit to the Treasury.
The next stop is at the Rustem Pasa Mosque, famous for its large quantities of exquisite Iznik tiles set in a very wide variety of beautiful floral and geometric designs. These cover not only the façade of the porch but also the "mihrab" , walls and columns. The tiles exhibit the use of a tomato-red colour, characteristic of the early Iznik period (1555-1620), and no other mosque in Istanbul makes such lavish use of these tiles.
