Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

The islands can be characterised by economic monoculture, with the local economy dependent on only one activity, tourism. However it would be false to classify the Princes Islands as typical touristic island destinations like the Caribbean, Canaries, or Dodecanese, since they are quite different in terms of their developmental scale and are not physically isolated enough to be perceived as exotic venues, but rather are the settlements of a metropolitan city, Istanbul.

Yet the islands, especially Buyukada, are rich in natural resources and offer unique cultural features that can be utilised as touristic products once they are developed, managed and marketed. By promoting Princes Island tours the organisers encourage tourism in the islands.
