Istanbul climate and weather
All four seasons are enjoyed by Istanbul's inhabitants, with the weather characteristic of a somewhat cooler Mediterranean climate. Spring is short and pretty, the summer weather is superb, autumn is long and offers crisp, blue skies while winter sees the appearance of rain.
Spring in Istanbul is rather pretty. The Judas-tree groves don a pretty purple, and the parks and gardens of the city are decorated with fragrant flowers. March can be a rather cool and rainy month, but April and May clear up to truly represent perfect spring weather. The first couple of days of spring are reminiscent of the Spring weather, but warm through to perfect summer conditions.
The seas of Istanbul offer a welcome relief from the warmth of summer, and it is possible to bathe in them until the end of September.
The longest season in Istanbul is Autumm, when the skies are as bright as mother-of-pearl.
The winter months from December to March are rather cold and travellers are advised to pack a raincoat, umbrella and a thick coat. Snow fall is generally not experienced in the city, though the sports centre in nearby Uludag, Bursa is a great escape for those searching for some winter adventure.
